VOXNORTH was founded in 2005 by musical director and professor Jim Daus Hjernøe as a XL-Vocalgroup in connection with the academy of music in Aalborg (DK). 16 singers perform modern a cappella-music with depth and power in the style of "Folk/World" music and improvisational works. The musical director sings in the group containing strong performers and soloists. The purpose is to take an active part in the development of vocal popular music nationally as well as internationally, which plays an important role in the program at the Academy and the Korcenter.dk.
The American a cappella organization CASA (The Contemporary A Cappella Society of America) nominated the VOXNORTH album ESENCE (2007) for a CARA (Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards) in two categories: Folk/World Album and Folk/World Song (Night Yoik). In every category there were four nominees out of all a cappella recordings released in the whole world.
