The Academy of Music, Aalborg is an independent, advanced educational institution under the Danish Ministry of Culture. Together with the other five academies of music, the object of the Academy of Music, Aalborg is to attend to the highest education in music and music teaching and otherwise contribute to promoting the music culture in Denmark.
The Academy of Music, Aalborg is situated in Denmark's fourth largest city with approximately 160,000 inhabitants; the Academy is housed in beautiful old buildings and takes an active part in the city's rich cultural life.
At the Academy of Music, Aalborg it is possible to qualify as a professional musician and music teacher within the classical as well as the rhythmic area; The Academy offers a three-year bachelor programme end a twoyear master's programme in which the students specialise in a particular field. All educations are free, however, the student himself pays the expenses for instruments, sheets of music/scores, text books, etc. The education entitles the student to public study aid according to the rules that apply to advanced education in Denmark.
The Academy of Music, Aalborg has approximately 107 students, evenly divided among the classical and the rhythmic education. In recent years there have been many applicants, both Danish and foreign, to the Academy. The annual intake is approximately 20 students.
There are more than 60 teachers who altogether covers the wide professional spectrum.
According to the motto "small is beautiful" the Academy of Music, Aalborg offers a good study environment where everybody knows each another. We have good experience with foreign students and are prepared to comply with possible language problems.
Within the classical as well as the rhythmic elementary music teaching area the studies are based on one or more major subjects (singing, piano, saxophone, choir instruction, ensemble playing, guitar etc.) and a number of minor subjects (classical or rhythmic music history , aural training etc.).
How to apply
To be admitted to the Academy of Music, Aalborg, you have to pass an entrance examination. Details about this entrance examination can be obtained from the academy. The entrance examination comprises the major subject and some of the minor subjects (piano, ear training, music theory etc).
You are always welcome to contact the Academy if you need further information.
If you wish to apply for admission for the academic year 2010-2011, you must submit your application before 1th December 2009.
The main rule is that the applicat must be between 18 and 30 years of age to be admitted however, exemptions from this rule may be granted.
The applicant hvae to bring along his/her own accompanist or group of musicians. The Academy may arrange contact for professional accompanists, however, the related costs are irrelevant to the Academy.
If the applicant can't find the notes for the compulsory tasks that are required for certain entrance examinations, these can be borrowed from the Academy's library.
As the numbers of student places are limited, the Academy may not be able to admit all qualified applicants.
